11465 AN UNUSUAL PAIR OF NEOCLASSICAL BRONZED AND GILTWOOD VASES Northern European. Late Eighteenth Or Early Nineteenth Century. Measurements: Height: 23 5/8″ (60 cm); Diameter: 20 7/8″ (53 cm).



Research
The bronzed bodies topped with integral false lid and parcel gilt swag decoration is set with two carved satyr masks. The lid centered by a cone shaped finial. The whole raised on three restored zoomorphic giltwood legs.

The late eighteenth and early nineteenth century predilection to adapt classical elements into the design of furniture and decorative objects can be seen in this large and unusual pair of covered vases, which draws inspiration from the forms of antiquity and would have been conceived to take their place in a neoclassical-inspired setting.
