9552 A RARE BAROQUE GILTWOOD RECTANGULAR TABLE EN QUATRE FACE RELATED TO EXAMPLES IN THE BRITISH ROYAL COLLECTION English or French. Circa 1700.   Measurements: Height: 32 1/2″ (82.5 cm) Width: 47″ (119.5 cm) Depth: 25″ (64 cm)



Research:

Of gilded pine. The beige and red veined marble top with molded edge probably a 19th century replacement. The plain molded cavetto frieze rests on four massive tapering legs each headed by a carved bulbous section with stylized capital above while the shaft has a stepped recessed panel framed by square molded edges. The panel with finely incised diaper pattern. From the frieze are suspended four acanthine pierced carved aprons, each centered by a shell. The short end aprons replaced. One long apron restored. The four legs united by a molded and shaped stretcher centered by a plain podium designed to receive a vase. The whole raised on four acanthine incurved carved feet. Large areas of bolus is original. The gilding original in part and where lacking, carefully matched.
