Of mahogany, the projecting molded top above ten cockbanded drawers each centered by a plain brass keyhole escutcheon. The whole raised on a plain plinth base.

This tall, narrow chest of drawers is called a semainier, deriving the French word semaine, meaning ‘week’. Originally seven in number, the drawers were intended to store a week’s supply of garments.
