Research

The case of mahogany. The moulded rectangular cornice canted to the front corner with dentilled moulding above conforming lozenge pattern frieze, raised to the front corners on fluted Corinthian half-columns, the circular face with Roman numeral hours and numbered minutes signed Rs Van Meurs & Zoon, flanked by foliate carved quarters, to the side oval lattice-work panels inside moulded rectangular panels opening as doors, the top raised on a fluted Corinthian column, stop fluted to the lower part opening to the front, the whole raised on a moulded base circular base on a square plinth.

The movement, a very substantial five pillar three-train movement has a large pin barrel 10 inches long and 3 inches in diameter, which runs across the backplate of the movement. It plays eight tunes on sixteen bells with thirty three hammers and is rack striking on two additional bells and hammers for the hour and half-hour. The clock has three brass-cased weights and a large brass  bob pendulum. The enamel dial has strike/silent at the number nine position and the tune select lever at the number six position.
