9010 AN EXTRAORDINARY CARVED LIMEWOOD RED STAINED ROCOCO PERIOD SIDE TABLE OF PRONOUNCED ASYMMETRICAL FORM, POSSIBLY SCULPTED AS A CARVERS PRESENTATION PIECE German. Circa 1750. Measurements: Height: 31″ (79cm) Width: 46″ (117cm) Depth: 23″ (59cm)
Of limewood, with original red stain decoration. The replaced eared and shaped top veneered in Sienna marble, with moulded edge, the shaped pierced frieze boldly carved with C-scrolls and foliage, the dramatically shaped and pierced legs massively carved at the knees with opposed foliate C-scrolls, the slender lower legs entwined with foliage, each of the four feet differently carved, one with a paw, one with a root burr and two with scrolls. Old cut marks to side aprons indicate table was once divided in half, possibly for ease of transport or storage. Minor repairs to joints and later strengthening.
