    AN UNUSUAL OAK AND WALNUT EXTENDING DINING TABLE

    Probably French. Circa 1850.

    Measurements

    Height: 28" (71.5 cm)
    Diameter when closed: 47" (119.5 cm)
    Diameter when fully extended: 140" (355.5 cm)

    Research

    The top and eight original leaves composed of alternating oak and walnut fillets radiating from a central narrow inlaid field.  The top resting on an ogee frieze which is supported on a faceted column from which issues four scrolling legs set with roundels.  From the circular closed position the table dividing to receive the original leaves.  There is an original central support concealed within the columnar base.
