The present painting, titled “King of the Kitchen,” was painted by New York artist James Fagan (1864-1940) and was shown in 1889 at the autumn exhibition of the National Academy of Design in New York, where it hung in the North Gallery. The Art Amateur hailed the picture as “an excellent piece of brush-work, good in color and lighting.”
