Of polychrome enameled lava stone. The top decorated with Pompeian style grotesques, birds and medallions representing the four seasons, raised on a mahogany tripod base terminating in paw feet.

The top of the present table, known as the TABLE des quatre SAISONS (Four Seasons Table) represents an exceptionally rare example executed in enameled painting, and fired onto a base of lava stone, a decorative technique championed by the leading Parisian architect of the period, Jacques-Ignace Hittorff (1792-1867) (figure 1).
