Of mahogany, marble, gilt brass and gilt iron.  The circular statuary marble top encased within gilt brass molding and pierced gallery. The mahogany base with two shaped standard ends supported by four ‘S’ scroll feet. The ends united by a gilt iron downward curving stretcher. 

The present table recalls the form of the French 18th and 19th century table du vigneron, or vintner’s table, made up of a circular tilt-top resting on a trestle base. One explanation for their use says that they were taken in to vineyards during the wine harvest, while another and more likely, idea is that they were employed in cellars for wine tasting. The tilt top allowed it to be stored aside when not in use. Figures 1 illustrates examples of both a wooden and an iron version dating from the 19th century.

The present table is a sophisticated interpretation of this model, and the only one presently known to incorporate a marble, rather than a more typical wooden top.
