The trophy suspended from a carved ribbon composed of military paraphernalia including cannonballs and equipment for cleaning cannons, a saber, a wheel, and a staff with ram’s head finial, all joined by chains, ropes and floral garlands, crossed behind a central rectangular plaque with an allegory of Jupiter depicting boulders, thunderbolt and double-headed eagle within a decorative guilloche frame. This interesting wall trophy is sculpted with military paraphernalia, surrounding a plaque depicting attributes of the Roman god Jupiter (Zeus to the Greeks), ruler of the gods and father to Mars, the god of war. Cannonballs and equipment for cleaning cannons, a saber, a wheel, and a broken battering ram, all joined by chains, ropes and floral garlands, cross behind a rectangular plaque containing an unusual vignette. At its center, the double-ended multi-pronged thunderbolt of Jupiter appears to break through a group of large stones, scattering them in all directions. Sweeping lines in low relief to either side of the bolt illustrate the speed and force with which it shatters the stone barrier.
