11593 A MOST UNUSUAL SILVER GILT RECTANGULAR MIRROR WITH FINELY MODELED NEOCLASSICAL ORNAMENT APPLIED TO ORIGINAL RED VELVET GROUND English. Second Half Of The Nineteenth Century. Measurements: Height: 62 1/4″ (158.1 cm) Width at top: 45 5/8″ (115.8 cm) Width at bottom: 47 3/4″ (121.2 cm).



Research
Of gilt and silver leaf finely modeled composition. The cavetto cornice with acanthine decoration rests on a compartmented frieze with repeating inverted fans and harebell swags flanked by paterae all on a red velvet ground. The paired uprights with ribbon carved frames enclosing red velvet panels set with a miscellany of applied classical ornament. The whole resting on a giltwood molded stepped base. Minor losses to ornament to be reinstated.
