Of mahogany. Of rectangular form and with ‘D’ molded vertical slats to three sides and having three slatted shelves.  On each shelf rests a slide. The lower two with shaped sides and three pierced handle grips. The top most slide with plain shallow sides is possibly an extremely old (of the period) replacement.

The top most tier with shaped outer sides and incurved molding which continues down the legs. The whole raised on original brass castors.

This remarkable bespoke George III mahogany cabinet is apparently unique in Georgian or any other period of English or European furniture design, having open slats on all sides and shelves except for the front where its three slides insert. 

The piece is beautifully proportioned and conceived, with noticeable refinement in its detail, such as finely executed ‘D’ and thumb moldings to the inner and outer uprights, elegant cast brass casters, and choice cuts of expensive mahogany. 

Its original purpose is not entirely certain, but given its all-around quality, it probably had a position in a principal location within a sophisticated library or study.
