Of walnut. With shaped upholstered back from which issue shepherds crook arms terminating in a distinctive circular corble support. The drop in seat framed by a plain frieze from which issue cabriole front legs terminating in a pad foot. The rear legs heavily raked.
A closely related chair is illustrated in Geoffrey Beard & Judith Goodison’s English Furniture 1500-1840, p. 56, figure 1, from the Percival D. Griffiths Collection with a provenance of the Dowager Marchioness of Cholmondeley (figure 1).
